Danzon

Danzon is considered the Cuban national dance although other such authentic rhythms can challenge the supremacy.

It was created in the Liceo de Matanzas in the year 1879. "La Alturas de Simpson" by Miguel Failde, honoring the place it came from, was its first piece. Its origins came from an European-influenced ballroom that after a gradual Creole process evolved into the Cuban dance.

This had a greater expressive freedom, with a choreographic strength in the link of the partners and a clear afroide influence in its rhythm. When increasing its formative parts and extending its dancing time it began to be called: Danzon.

There are several characteristics of this distinguished dance of the Creole dance floors, but its non- dance introductory part, in which women fan themselves while talking in privacy with their partners is the most transcendental image of Danzon.
